After many months of work by the CCSA committee, the new website has arrived. It might not look like much on the surface, but a lot has happened in the background, and the new site now supports user registration and member logins. Anyone can now register to receive email updates from the CCSA, as well as unsubscribe themselves if they wish. Registered users and members can now update their own details. Anyone can now join the club online, and members can rejoin when their membership expires. Both registered users and members can see their current membership status (if any).

With the increasing membership base and limited volunteer time the committee decided to implement the changes to make administering of the membership much easier in future. Mailouts will now be much more targeted, resulting in fewer irrelevant mailouts and the burden of work on the Treasurer should reduce considerably.

All in all the system should be a great improvement on the old manual way of doing things.

Crag care is back! The UniSA guys are coming to join us too!

When?
Sunday 9th November, 2014. Meet at 9:30am at the car parking near gate #17 on Norton Summit Road. Work will finish at 12pm but bring some lunch and stay for an afternoon climb.

What will we be doing?
Finally a change in venue. It’s blackberry season and we’ll be attacking the small patches on blackberries above Far Crag. If enough folks come out we may even split and have a team go down and attack the patches at the base of the cliffs.

We’ll be cutting and swabbing the blackberry and doing our best to ensure it is removed from the area. There will be a brief demonstration on how to do this at 9:30 and then we will be going for it.

What do I bring?
Sturdy shoes, hat, water, morning tea and for those working at the base of the cliffs helmets. Don’t forget your gear and some lunch if you intend to stay for an afternoon climb!

If a Total Fire Ban is declared for Sunday (ie severe, extreme or catastrophic fire ban alert) the event will not go ahead.

Can we count on you? Please email Crag Care to let us know if we can so we ensure we have enough tools for everyone.

From The Club President:

Hi everyone, please note works on roadside vegetation on June 1st. The message as received below outlines the work to be carried out and future plans.

As you will also note our recent efforts as a club have been recognised, appreciated and I believe contributed greatly to maintaining access to the Norton Summit crag. Thanks to everyone who has contributed in some way, let’s keep up the good work.

My advice is for no climbing at Norton Summit on June 1, if you simply must climb there are plenty of nearby options, but please also consider turning up to help the locals and keep access to this area.

Regards

Hi Adam,

My name is Mack Wilson from Old Norton Summit Rd, manager of the recent revegetation works under Pizey’s Knob.

Thank you for your organisation of the recent clean-up and for keeping an eye out for non CCSA climbers.

This email is just to introduce myself and to let you know about some upcoming works and potential support from your climbers.

Works – interruption to parking for climbers:

Sat. June 1 10:00am:

Many of the street residents will be gathering on the site to get rid of the blackberry by rugging up and rolling it down the hill. This is likely to cause some parking problems for climbers as some of the residence may park their vehicles with equipment.

In order to not upset your climbers, you may wish to inform them of this work. If any of them want to help with Black Berry removal, we would more than welcome them.

Native Planting:

We are planning the planting in July, August but are yet to set a schedule as we need to finish cleaning the site. After speaking with a number of CCSA climbers, they have expressed interest in helping out. We would more than welcome there help.

If OK, I will let you know closer the planting dates in case you would like to inform your members.

Once again the many are at risk of losing access due to the actions of a few.

We have absolutely no right to be making demands of Alister as far as access to Waitpinga through his land is concerned.

Yesterday someone arrived at the gates to Alister’s farm and called asking for permission to drive through. Alister said that it was not ok unless the person had a diesel 4wd due to fire risk. The person concerned became angry and abusive towards Alister.

They then walked in from another location and became distressed (lack of water and heat I think) and I believe fainted. This then resulted in Alister receiving more abusive phone messages.

THIS IS NOT ON!

We are there by Alister’s good will.

The process is you call at least one day before to check.
You follow all requests for access on the day. You close all gates that you open along the way and you stay to the track, giving way to animals.
If you don’t like the access conditions as stipulated by Alister on the day, or you can’t get in contact with him YOU DON’T GO IN.

This is private property, you have no god-given right to be there. If you are underprepared because you didn’t call or didn’t think in advance enough to take adequate supplies it is your own fault.

There is no excuse for abusing Alister.
